The Wave Ball choice

The choice of the Wave Ball model mainly depends on the area of the tank, the desired height of wave, the depth and the resonance quality of the pool.

Each Wave Ball type is characterised by its diameter, weight and minimum necessary depth.

The Wave Ball model characterizes the diameter of the Wave Ball. For example, a W150F or FL has a diameter of 150 cm. F means flat and L light so for each Wave Ball diameter we have two different weights. The heavier and larger the Wave Ball is, the better the impact on the water will be (pic 1).

The minimum necessary depth is the minimum depth of water that allows the Wave Ball to run without any risk to be smashed on the bottom of the tank. A bigger and heavier Wave Ball  needs of course a higher depth.

Even if WOW Company has a more precise tool that helps to choose the type of Wave Ball, here is the approximate working range for each type (fig1)

The area of the tank is the main parameter that will orient the choice of a Wave Ball. From there, other factors will turn the choice to the upper or lower model:

  • The height of wave desired by the client will influence a lot on the model. For example the same pool can be equipped with a W130F if the needed wave height is 40 cm or with a W150F if the needed height is 80 cm. Thus, the bigger the amplitude of the wave has to be, the bigger the Wave Ball has to be…
  • If the dunker is used with the Wave Ball, it will drastically affect the resonance and will reduce the height of wave by more or less 2, therefore, in that case we have to oversize the Wave Ball in order to be able to produce the desired waves.
  • The filtration system, or rather how it appears on the freeboards (see pool design chapter) can affect the resonance quality a lot and make that the Wave Ball model might be the one above.
  • Handrails, scales and platforms can affect the resonance a lot and can also influence the choice of the Wave Ball model.
  • The minimum necessary depth under the Wave Ball: This depth can be a factor that will influence the choice of the Wave Ball in some cases. For example, if the appropriate Wave Ball for a pool is a W130F (minimum depth of 150cm) but the pool is only 1,4 m deep, the choice of the Wave Ball will be a W150FL because it has a minimal working depth of 1,4 m which is in accordance with the depth of the pool.

 

The Wave Ball color

There are 6 standard colors for the Wave Ball ( fig 1).

However, the entire RAL palette can be ordered as an option but with 3 additional weeks for the production and an additional price.

Accessories (options)

Pedestal

The Wave Ball can be delivered with a stainless steel pedestal (pic 2). This one is used when the Wave Ball is removed from the tank and set in a stocking place, it is also useful when the pool is emptied.

Your logo on the Wave Ball (options)

In addition to the choice of the color, the Wave Ball can be personalized with a logo or a drawing (pic 3 and 4). Vectorial files of the drawing/logo have to be supplied for that.
